Excess Yard Debris Clarification

There has been some confusion about when and if excess lawn debris should be picked up by Garron.   I have attached page 89 of the Information Directory as a reference.

Summary of Information Directory rule:

  1. All residents are provided by Republic with a container for landscape trimmings
  2. Landscape trimming container should be used for all trimmings that you may have
  3. If garden debris exceeds the capacity of the Landscape trimming container, excess debris may be placed un-bagged in guest parking area closes to your residence on the evening before or the morning of the collection day
  4. If the excess debris is more than a cubic yard, collection can be arranged by contacting Steve Chinn prior to the pickup date.
    1. Cost of this pick up (more than a cubic yard) is the responsibility of the homeowner

Results from the Survey

We had 36 responses from the survey that was sent out a little less than a month ago, below is a summary of the responses:

  1. Comments about the new planters around the pools – Most responses were positive and liked the attractive addition to the pools
  2. Response to the question of labeling our area, similar to LaVonne – Most felt that it would be a waste of money and perhaps be divisive
  3. To the Question about the resurfacing of the pool at Boones Bend and Winchester – Many people had not had a chance yet to go to the pool and evaluate the improvement.  Some felt it might be best to wait to see how this resurfacing holds up before doing the rest of the pools
  4. The responses about the practice green (Murphy’s green) next to Green on Red nine were very positive, with many looking forward to using this area again.  However, the report from the board meeting was that the seeding of this area did not work.  Next step “plugging” in September – so stay tuned
  5. Finally what type of information do you want to see on Website Post:
    • Information about Rec Hall C – we are looking at some updates to this building soon, I will be posting pictures and descriptions soon
    • Budget Summaries -Will work with our Treasurer and see what we can put together
    • Minutes – Highlights from board meetings, especially decision that affect expenditures, Questionnaires on upcoming decisions before the decision is made, updates on Disaster Preparedness –  Minutes are posted on the website one month after their approval.  So if you look under minutes you will see July’s minutes.  I do understand your request for highlights and will try to address some of important information in some future post. Link to the Minutes
    • More Surveys – Your response was very helpful, so look forward to more surveys in the future
    • On-line recommendations of contractors – Unfortunately as part of the Board, we cannot recommend contractors.  But if you find someone that you would like to recommend.  You can post in the comments your recommendations

What’s happening in Charbonneau – Crime waves, I believe that this information comes first from the Country club as they receive reports from security patrols

Pertinent information = When does trimming start, spraying, weeding, anything that affects homeowners.  Response from Landscaping that all areas are different and changes are made all the time.

Break down of the homeowners insurance – so can see big picture – Our policy is on-line at the information directory – We are checking with Jay to see if he can put something together.  Link to Information Directory and Insurance Policy

Work behind the houses on Miley – Unbelievable improvement – I will be posting pictures soon.

Finally there was a suggestion that we have an Orientation for new & old residents explaining landscaping – what do the gardeners maintain outside of gates, sprinklers and water systems, e.g. Flushing schedules. 2. Noise abatement on weekends, e.g. Blowers in early am.  This sounds like a great committee project.  Please let me know if there is anyone who would like to help plan and put together a presentation welcome new residents to our community.

Report from Mick Hergert – Another Scam to be aware of

Report from Mick and Donna Hergert

Donna and I received a phone call this a.m. from our oldest grandson who suddenly went to New York to attend a wedding.  While there he rear ended someone, broke his nose, and was issued a DUI.  He had one phone call to make after the emergency room and booking at the police station.  Didn’t want to have us tell his parents. Real fishy.  We got a call 10 minutes later from an attorney in NY giving us details of how we can “spring” the kid out of jail.  Of course it meant sending $$ to him. I knew it was a scam pretty quickly as I have read about the “grandparents scam”.  So, for all the grandparents in Charbonneau take warning.

Mick
The scammers claiming a broken nose and therefore sounding nasally, did explain the change of voice.  However, Mick stated that they know their Grandson and know that he would never go on a lark trip to NY for just his friends wedding and so they called him immediately and of course he was at work.
Bottom line is always good to check the facts of any phone calls you receive

Improvements to our pools

Please stop by the pool on Winchester to see the new concrete.  Soon your pool may be getting this update

Before: B pool on Sacajawea, still needs to be done, see picture below

?

After: Pool on Winchester, with new concrete

?

And you may have noticed a few decorative pots at your pool, a nice addition

Another Scam – Please be aware of anyone calling and saying they are from VISA or Mastercard

I received an email this morning from Jesse Taft with information on a new scam to be aware of.

The caller states that they are from Security and Fraud for your credit card and then tells you that they want to verify a purchase on your credit card.  They do not ask you for the number of your account, but ask you for the three digit number off the back of the card.  I called my VISA credit card company to inquire about this scam.  They stated that if you get this call, the “Scammer” may have intercepted enough information on your account to piece together all they need, and with the addition of the 3 digit code and perhaps an expiration date they are able to make charges to your account.

As always, do not give any information to an unsolicited call.  Hang up and call the official number on the back of your credit card and let your credit card company know about the call you just received.  If you have a cell phone, make a note of the number that the scammer called from and give this information to your credit card company also.

If you do have a cell phone, you can then go to recent calls and block the number so that you will not receive future calls, at least not from the same number.

Happy 4th of July – Fun Fact about our flag

The Designer of Our Current Flag

The flag, as it flies today with 50 stars and 13 stripes, was designed in 1958 by 17-year-old high school student, Robert G. Heft, of Lancaster, Ohio.

While his teacher only awarded Heft a B- for the sewing project, President Dwight D. Eisenhower chose his design out of 1,500 entries.

Thankfully, Heft’s teacher made good on her promise to raise his grade in the unlikely event that his design won the contest.

Be aware that Vermin have been seen in the neighborhood

A Rat was seen by Ralph Martin (CHOA Landscape Director) on a bird feeder just inside a courtyard on Fairway Dr.  Please do not feed the ducks throwing birdseed in the grass!  I personally (Jan Landis, CHOA communication Director) have seen an increase of duck activity, including excrement all over our patio.

According to Ralph, if many residents are feeding wildlife, outside of the CHOA policy, it may be why we are seeing rats and recent sightings of the coyote.  Ralph has personally  seen a coyote 3 times around F&G pool area in the early evenings!  With the added concern of the rats, who now have crossed over from Louvonne to Fairway this must be addressed.  Thank you!  Ralph

Policy regarding feeding of wildlife in CHOA Neighborhoods (May 14, 2014):

  • Feeding of wild animals, for example, geese, ducks, squirrels, and deer in all areas outside your home, including your courtyard, is prohibited.
  • Birds may only be fed inside a homeowner’s courtyard with a feeder hung above the ground.
  • Homeowners should only use cracked birdseed or a seed mixture called No Waste®
  • Homeowners may feed hummingbirds inside their courtyard and in common areas outside of the courtyard with a liquid feeder hung above the ground.
  • Offenders of the above policy will be given one oral warning. Subsequent offenses will be enforced in accordance with CHOA’s Enforcement Resolution 2013-002.
  • A fine of $25.00 could be issued.
