Please Note- RV Lot to be repaved next week

RV Lot to be repaved next week

Please note that the RV lot is getting repaved next week, starting Sunday July 16th.  All RVs will need to be removed from the RV lot during that time.

In addition to the sewer line construction, we will also all need to be more tolerant and patient with our neighbors, especially those who have RVs that may need to use some of our Guest parking spaces while the RV lot is closed.

It is nice to see the continuation of improvements to our neighborhood and appreciate your understanding during these disruptions to our normal routines.

Chief of Police speaks to parking problems

Chief Jeff Smith attended our last meeting to discuss parking on the streets.

There continues to be a problem of vehicles parked on our narrow streets.  Chief Jeff Smith agreed that this was a real safety issue, especially in the event of an emergency vehicle ability to travel to a resident in need of help.  There is also the issue of visibility when there are walkers where a parked vehicle may prohibit visibility of a car traveling down the street.

There are currently “No Parking” signs on our streets to inform residents that there is no parking.  Any sign that you see on a street means the whole street  is a no parking zone and not just where there is a sign.

Because there is a lot of construction in Charbonneau the fact that sometimes a construction vehicle will park on the street was discussed.  This should be for unloading or loading only, and for as short a time as possible.

If you see any vehicle parked where it should not be:

  1. Neighbor to Neighbor have a conversation
  2. Call Emergency Dispatch 503-655-8211, and inform the police of the illegal parking so that they can ticket or remove the vehicle
  3. Call Steve Chinn 503-312-0927

Pool Map and Board Meeting Minutes

Feedback from CHOA Website Posts:

Residents need to know where all pools are located in the CHOA neighborhood

Included below is a map of the CHOA neighborhood, with pools highlighted in Blue and the Red golf course highlighted in Green. An existing map was used to create this pool map, so it is not perfect. We will try to get a map included on the website, under maps, before next years summer season.

Here is a link to the map for printing:

Residents want to be able to read minutes from board meetings

All minutes from board meetings are posted on the Website under Minutes.

On the minutes page you will see a table of contents for past board minutes.  In the upper right hand corner of the document, you will see a box.  If you click on the box the document will open.  Scroll down to the end of the document and you will find both the minutes from the August meeting and a draft of the September minutes.

We encourage everyone to attend your board meetings.  Board meetings are held at Pool house C on Lafayette street, the second Wednesday of each month at 10:00 am.  The next meeting will be October 12th.

Stay tuned: A separate post will include results from Chief Jeff Smith visit to the September board meeting and results of a discussion of parking rules.

Holiday Party and results of this years giving

About 75-80 people attended our Holiday Gathering. Thanks to Ty & Joan Kuhns  and Bill & Susan Steel Preparations and their CHOA volunteer team the Country Club was beautifully decorated and everyone who attended had a wonderful time of socializing with their neighbors.   I have heard many comments  since the party that residents look forward to enjoy this party as one of the best of the year.

During our Holiday Gathering we again gave the opportunity for our residents to give to The Community Transitional School of Portland.  This year we raised $760.00 in cash and 45-50 gifts were delivered to the children.  The poster below is from the kids of CTS.

Thank you 2015Excerpt from letter of thanks written by Principal and Lead Teacher, Cheryl Bickie:

While all of us feel at times that we are caught up in circumstances over which we have no control, many of our students are especially prone to see themselves as helpless victims in a world where they have few options and little or no opportunity to take control of their own lives.  It’s a belief that many of them inherit from their parents and one they will likely pass on to their own children.  Our mission is to prevent that, to break the cycle of poverty and homelessness they are caught in by helping them discover that they have the strength within themselves to change their lives and the support they need to set goals and achieve….

Hardly a day goes by that I am not mindful of your support and what it means.  For the past year or two I have begun walking to work whenever I can.  As the days grow shorter and colder, I am often the first to arrive and I see the building waiting dark and silent for the school day to begin.  Opening the door and stepping from the dark outside to the dark inside, I turn on the heat and lights, and it is often then that I think what a miracle it is that the place I am standing in was built by the kindness of thousands of people for the benefit of children most of them have never met and will never know.  Later, as the sky lightens and children pour from the buses and stream laughing and shouting into the school. I often reflect on how little they actually know about all the people who opened that door and keep it open every day……But we never forget that it is you who make it possible for us to be there, and we are grateful for all you do.

If you were unable to make it to the Gathering and would still like to contribute there are several ways to do so, please visit their webpage at:  http://www.transitionalschool.org/help/help.html

Special Thank You To The WHOLE CHOA TEAM who made this event special

Space does not allow me to post all the names of those who helped make this event special.  If you would like to comment on the wonderful time you had,  I will pass on your thanks to the team
